Press Pack - Planning

Updated: Jun 13, 2022

What I will be producing

My press kit will contain the trailer and poster I have made previously as well as my additional secondary individual project. The pack will also include stills of the film as well as stills of production and locations (Ex. Riverbank). It will also include bio's of team members as well as a fact sheet detailing facts about the film such as its length, where it was shot, production time etc. Quotes from producers as well as what went well and the message we wanted to get across.

(A spider diagram regarding the plan.)

How my analysis has effected my pack

My analysis showed me how press packs were made, how the color schemes represent the brand and product as well as the type of product being produced by the producer. For example, the franchise I analyzed (Ghostbusters) used a wide variety of products and advertising but kept to the same appearance and design for each product. This will help me as the appearance and variety of products in a professional pack will help me decide a wider variety of products as well as help keeping a consistent design between them.

What additional research I need to do

I will research the different layouts of press packs. This will help me decide on the most appropriate and fitting design that will go with my pack and products. I will also research other press packs and how many images I should include in the pack as well as how many the team and I should take when possible.

The images above showcase examples of social media and press pack advertisement, both done by professional teams. I want to incorporate what both examples possess as they both show to have very stylistic approaches to social media posting, while one is in the set universe of the product, the other advertises the merchandise of characters from the universe they are setting up.

The layout of the examples above (Primarily Netflix's press pack) shows to be sleek and smoothly coloured in, the lined text as well as the bold text both highlight the titles and wordplay being shown, the position of the text and images both collide well with each other as they are not in each others way, but rather interact with each other as the text wraps around the images.

Both of these examples attract their target audiences by using specific colours and styles in order to attract certain audiences. For example, the Bojackhorseman post uses an in-universe set up to deliver entertaining content, enticing any viewers to learn more about it. The Netflix press pack attracts its audience by showing off its merchandising as well as its behind the scenes shots, which would intrigue the viewer and bring them in.

What practical work I need to do

I need to take photos of the team making the film (Behind the Scenes/BTS). This will help my press pack become more authentic to real life press packs. I will also take screen shots of press pack templates to gain an understanding of what I would want for my press pack design, I will also describe why I took a screenshot of the specific template.

Press pack template screenshots

I took a screenshot of this template because of the colour scheme as well as the image collage. It uses a simplistic design which I also enjoy, I will change the colours to fit the aesthetic I am going for. The simplistic aesthetic is something I think would fit the modern day standards of what a press pack should look like, It also bears the colour pallet I desire which saves time on changing all the aesthetics the one I want.

I took a screenshot of this template because of the amount of information displayed on these panels, which will be useful for writing down statistics relating to my products. Its complex design is something I will be able to change with ease. The large amount of detail could easily fit behind the scenes quotes as well as descriptions of the film and reviews. The large amount of room for images also helps with behind the scenes photos and screenshots from the movie. The primary issue is that It doesn't use the colour pallet I am looking for, changing the packs design could use up valuable time.
