Rough Edit
This is the rough version of the final edit. In comparison to the final version, there are lots of background and sound effects missing as well as transitions between scenes and text. This demonstrates the difference in editing style, as the final product appears more dramatic while the rough version appears more lifeless and empty. The changes made to the final version in comparison to this version make the trailer itself a lot better as the trailer is full of life with effects and sounds.
Final Edit
This is the final version of my edit. The edit above shows how I have evolved my editing skills from my first project to this one, these skills include:
- Green screen usage
- Montage editing
- Transition usage
I will explain how each of these skills were utilized and developed as I edited this video together.
My greenscreen editing skills were tested when making this edit, before this edit I didn't entirely know how to key out colors and fully use the greenscreen features. However, making this edit as well as doing my own research has brought my skills in this field up by a significant amount. This can help make the trailer greater, making it more realistic to the story being told in the product. This skill can also be used in future projects if it is necessary. My use of this skill in my edit is minimal as there is only one scene where this skill is utilized, I would use more greenscreen editing in future.
My montage editing skills were not very good before doing this project, as I would always place clips together too slow or too fast for what I wanted. Now that I have learnt the correct ratio between the length of the clip as well as the amount of clips used, I believe I have thoroughly developed my skills whilst working on this project and this skill will become a necessity in future project, especially ones similar to this one. My use of this skill in my edit is plentiful as most scenes are compilations of random clips, the skill itself was essential to making this project. I believe I have fully utilized this skill when making this edit.
My transition editing skills were basic before making this video, I knew of how to blend clips together using effects or separating strips of video from each other. Now I know different techniques and ways to apply transitions to sections of video, such as using fades and different clip sizes as well as applying more advanced types of effects like green screen transitions. I have developed my skills in this field while making this project, and I will go on to use these skills to enhance my future projects. My use of this skill in my edit is plentiful as all scenes contain transitions, alongside sound effects. I would use a larger variation of sound effects when making edits in the future.
(Technical Review)
I believe I have done very well when using effects in my edit, I have used a variety of edits as well as types of transitions and effects that didn't come with the editing software such as contrast transitions and synced text fades. I mainly used the research I did to build my edit, as inspiration came (Mainly) from the trailers I watched and reviewed in a previous blog post. The blue tint most scenes have comes from the atmosphere that is resonant with most horror trailers, it also applies to the crime genre as it applies a level of seriousness to the trailer. The montage segments of the trailer are also connotations of both genres, this editing technique adds build up to any scene as well as adding action without showing specific scenes.
(Peer Review: Review by Kai/Alicia)
In conclusion, I believe my edit is very well made. The effects I have used have linked to the genres that have been chosen by me and the team.
