Press Pack - Review

Updated: Jun 13, 2022

Press Pack

This is the finalized version of my press pack. When deciding a theme for my press pack, I thought about the conventions of the genre my product was based around (Both horror and crime). After searching through themes, I decided to make my pack a stylized horror theme as I believed it would look best and reflect the type of product I was producing very well. I reflected these themes by using two simple colours for my press pack, black and red. They are both conventional to the horror genre (as well as the crime genre To an extent).

I designed the press pack by thinking back to my research as well and applying what I already know about the different codes and conventions of the genres the team and I chose earlier on. I changed and moved around elements from the template I used to fit what I wanted, changing titles and font text as well as displaying my knowledge on press pack creation.

I decided on images for my press pack by looking through my images and seeing which images fit the specifications for the specific image type I needed, for example If I was searching for behind the scenes images, I would find images of set pieces as well as cast members outside the set, making the storyboard or generally planning.

The colour of the font came from both the background it sat in front as well as the genre codes and conventions I was trying to apply. The title text primarily based itself around the codes and conventions as most (if not all) of them are red while the paragraph text primarily based itself around the background, it is mostly white.

The layout of the images/trailer/text was inspired by modern day design preferences, such as smooth colouring and and simplistic shapes. The images in the backgrounds are also reflective of real world preferences in design as many designs incorporate similar styles and ideas that I have used (Including the images). I also spend a long time deciding upon a template to base my design on, as well as the theming I would go for when choosing said template. Once I decided, I converted the original template into the pack that I have now.

The audience I targeted would enjoy this press pack, in my opinion. The colours and simplistic imagery would easily draw the attention of the target demographic. The large amount of information at their disposal would interest them as it is about one of the worlds most bizarre and shocking cases. It would also interest them as it is Netflix based, with the target audience being avid watchers of Netflix.

The press pack comes together in a big but concise package fuelled with information. The colour scheme makes the pack itself more appealing to the eye as well as the text filling the empty space the images leave behind, It also all fits perfectly in their respective spaces without any text leak or hint of unprofessionalism. It also looks like a real world press pack (Comparison below) Which strings the pack together neatly by keeping it authentic.

Similarities

- Both press packs use black and red colour pallets

- Both packs contain various amounts of behind the scenes content - Both packs use similar images for their branding.

Differences

- One is primarily made for horror (Mine) - One is more stylised to fit the branding (Professional)

- One is more cartoony (Professional)

- One is more text heavy (Mine)

I like the simplistic style of the press pack as well as the colour scheme, they both fit into what I was aiming for as well as the authenticity I was going for as well, I don't believe much needs to be changed as I have used my skills effectively when making this press pack.
