Last week, I have learnt about several things that have benefitted both me and my team.
The first thing I learnt about was how to pre-plan a storyboard, this has come in handy for the team and I because it helped us get onto the same page when building the storyboard. It also connected the team together to make a storyboard we all agree upon, to make the best product possible. It can also keep the storyboard/plot being made consistant so, when we begin the filming process, we can create clips accurate to the story we want. The reason we made the pre-plan on notes was because we would freely be able to change elements of the story without ruining the final version of the storyboard.
In the image above, the team and I are working on the concept storyboard using notes and a large piece of paper. The ideas drawn out were discussed among the team to conclude on a story everyone was happy with as well as what should be moved around and changed all together.
This is the finalized version of the storyboard. Grace (A member of our team) illustrated the storyboard with detail, this helps with getting shots precisely right. We decided to make a storyboard because it is essential to getting an accurate story without getting confused or changing parts of the story other team members do not agree on. Another reason we decided to make a storyboard is so we can judge how long we should cut the clips themselves down when editing the trailer together.
I have also learnt about certain image editing techniques, specifically the burn and dodge brushes as well as image filters (Warming and cooling effects). This has helped me add extra atmosphere to image tests and concepts I have made, this adds authenticity as well as realism to my poster work as it can build a realistic piece of fake lighting.
The example above uses the burn and dodge brushes as well as a warming effect to emulate a dusk scenario where the original image took place during the day. This demonstrates the usefullness of the techniques.
The techniques in question do the following:
Burn brush - Darkens areas of an image as well as removing anything made with the dodge brush.
Dodge brush - Lightens areas of an image as well as removing anything made with the burn brush.
Warming effect - Adds an orange hue to the image to show a different time of day or temperature.
Cooling effect - Adds an blue hue to the image to show a different time of day or temperature.
I believe everything I have learned this past week has helped me build my poster making skills as well as teamwork and storyboard creation skills due to the effort and time needed to enhance both of those skills through these techniques. It has also boosted my confidence when it comes to the filming week as the teamwork done in these tasks have helped me know my teams pros and cons better and as a result I feel like the filming week will be another teamwork task to go through without any stress.
