NETFLIX TRAILERS

After watching the trailers for these three Netflix crime documentaries, I would like our Trailer to partly resemble these as their editing as well as footage are exactly what would make the Trailer itself captivate the viewer and overall make it interesting to watch. Some editing techniques used in these trailers could be used in the one we make, this would make the trailer look more authentic to what real trailers of this kind would look like.
Example 1
I like this shot technique due to is creating a mysterious atmosphere, which is something I want to accomplish. It also creates suspicion as well as tension as the audience tries to figure out what is going on and who the figure could be. I want to incorporate something similar to this because it would add to the atmospheric/intense approach I want to apply to my trailer. It also uses horror codes and conventions, an example being the darker set pieces as well as the ominous figure in the window.
Example 2
This series of images (One shown above) is a good example of montage editing, I want to use this in my trailer edit due to it containing being a common editing technique among the media industry, It also intensifies the trailer and builds up suspense until the climax eventually rises at the end of the montage. This additional tension would make my trailer more interesting to watch as well as a better demonstration of the horror my trailer uses.
POSTER RESEARCH
'THE RIPPER' poster was a huge inspiration for my poster creation, this is most notable with POSTER CONCEPT 2 as the two posters look alike. This inspired me because the poster itself looked intimidating with the antagonist looming above a city, insinuating that he has control over everything in it. The font types were also a big inspiration as it showed me what type of text I should use for a poster like mine.
The colour scheme is used to set the time period in which the incident the documentary is based off of happens, as well as to set the grim atmosphere the documentary has. The darker colours the poster has are also conventions to the horror genre, dirtier and darker colours make for a scarier and less familiar atmosphere (Invoking an abandoned feeling).
'THE SONS OF SAM: A DESCENT INTO DARKNESS' poster inspired the colour scheme for most of my posters, this can be seen in POSTER CONCEPT 1 and POSTER CONCEPT 1 BETA as the colour scheme for both consist of a lot of grey with hints of red and white (Mine also having yellow). The layout of the text was also a big inspiration, it helped make my poster concepts feel authentic and realistic.
The typography uses a scratched and dirty font, which works well as it shows the theme of the documentary from the text alone. I am aiming for a similar approach to my typography as It would really link the genre with the text a lot better than a basic, flat font. The depth of the text could also have a deeper meaning in regards to the story, the scratches representing stab wounds for example.
This version of the EVIL DEAD poster was a big inspiration behind the third movie poster concept as I liked the idea of picture elements being coloured in to represent key parts of the story without giving anything away. It also has a nice, simplified look which my poster concept will share to keep the image from being overly cluttered with unnecessary details.
The simplicity of the poster is something I want to incorporate in small amounts as I believe the amount of detail will tell a story through just the poster imagery alone, however certain aspects being simplified would help other aspects of the poster pop as well as giving the detailed parts more spotlight.
